Fault code P1000 – system diagnosis incomplete

Fault code P1000 is called “System Diagnosis Incomplete” but in different programs it may be called differently. This fault designation applies to all vehicles equipped with OBD-II.

Technical description and explained code P1000

This Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) is a generic powertrain code. Error P1000 is considered a general code because it applies to all makes and models of vehicles. Although the specific repair steps may vary slightly depending on the model.

Fault code P1000 – system diagnosis incomplete

DTC code P1000 is manufacturer specific. In the case of Ford and Jaguar vehicles, it simply means that the OBD-II scanner test has not been completed. It has a similar value for Mazda, which means the OBD-II drive cycle is malfunctioning.

If the OBD2 scanner does not perform a complete diagnostic test, this fault code can also be set.

This is what the P1000 code looks like on some vehicles:

  1. Ford: OBD-II Monitor Testing Incomplete.
  2. Jaguar, Kia, Lincoln, Mercedes, Mercury, Oldsmobile: OBD Systems Readiness Test Not Complete.
  3. Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep: Ignition Circuit Low.
  4. Land Rover: Engine control module (ECM) memory erased – codes not stored.
  5. Mazda: OBD-II Monitor Testing Not Completed.

Symptoms of vehicle malfunctions

The main signal that an error P1000 has occurred is the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is also known as the CheckEngine Light.

There should be no other symptoms unless you have other fault codes.

This code P1000 on modern cars is very rare, but still appears occasionally. The severity will vary depending on the type and brand of the specific vehicle.

Factors that can cause this error code

The error code P1000 can mean that one or more of the following problems have occurred:

  • Battery or PCM is disconnected (Ford, Mazda, Jaguar).
  • Diagnostic codes reset (Ford, Mazda, Jaguar).
  • Problem with the OBD2 monitor occurred before the drive cycle was completed (Ford).

How to fix or reset OBD-2 code P1000

Some suggested steps for troubleshooting and fix the error code P1000:

  1. If there are no other problems, code P1000 can simply be ignored, it should disappear on its own.
  2. To make the P1000 error disappear as quickly as possible on Ford cars, simply go through a driving cycle.
  3. On Jaguar vehicles, you should do the same.

Diagnose and repair of problems

Although it may be considered a normal Ford diagnostic trouble code, it has no effect on anything. In fact, you can safely ignore this code and it should disappear on its own, during normal driving.

It doesn’t need to be cleared, as the indication should disappear from the control panel on its own. If you want the code to clear faster, go through a Ford Drive cycle. In the case of Jaguar cars, we recommend that you do Jaguar Drive cycles to clear the code.

However, if you have other trouble codes, the malfunction indicator light will remain illuminated until the other problems are cleared.
